7 AKB48 members have been chosen to promote Wonda Coffee’s new I’m Free drink. Tomochin, Mariko, Yuko, Chiyuu, Mayuyu, Yokoyama and Acchan will be the ones fronting this campaign.
It’s lucky the CM isn’t shown in the UK or people would laugh at the catchphrase “I’m Free” which was used by the camp homosexual character Mr Humphries in the 70′s comedy Are You Being Served. Check out the CM and Mr Humphries saying the catchphrase in the videos below.
Next week sees AKB48 launch their new DVD PV collection DVD “AKB Ga Ippai ~ The Best Music Video” and to promote this DVD 6 AKB48 members will be at the Shibuya 109 store to advertise it for 9 consecutive days. Starting from yesterday, Sasshi was there until today, Mariko will be there tomorrow, Tomochin on the 23rd, Yukirin on the 24th, Acchan will be there for 2 days (25th/26th) and finally Yuko will be at the store on the 27th and 28th.
The DVD will have 36 PV’s, footage from photoshoots and conversations between members with each other. It comes out this Friday (24th June). Considering that Shibuya 109 IS the place to shop for young and stylish Japanese women, this promotion will no doubt reap it’s benefits when the 1st week sales figures come out. I’ve actually never been inside Shibuya 109 because I’ve got basically no interest to go inside a shop which sells women’s clothes but if I was in Tokyo right now I’d go there just to see and try to talk to the AKB48 members.
AKB48′s single Everyday Kachuusha has broken yet another sales record. The single has so far managed to sell 1.52 million copies in just 4 weeks and is well on it’s way to perhaps outsell Morning Musume’s Love Machine (1.64 million). The last artists to hit the 1.5 million barrier was back in 2005 when Yamapi and Kame teamed up to sing Seishun Amigo for the popular drama Nobuta wo Produce. The last female artist to achieve the same feat was MISIA nearly 11 years ago. No other artist has managed to sell 1.5 million in such a short time as AKB48.
I thought sales after the election would dry up but the single is still selling extremely well. I know I’ve said it more than once but many congratulations to AKB48. There is just no stopping them at this moment in time.
