AKB48 To Appear In New Short Drama

12 01 2011

AKB48 are set to appear in a new short drama series which will air on 9 consecutive nights between February 26th and March 9th.  There will be 17 episodes in total. I’m not sure which channel the drama will be on though but I’ll update this post when I find out. The series is called “Sakura Kara no Tegami~AKB48 Sorezore no Sotsugyou Monogatari~“. The drama will be based around the lyrics to AKB48 ‘ new single “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” which comes out on February 16th and it will be used as the drama’s OP.

The storyline will revolve around a male teacher played by Takaya Kamikawa who is dying from terminal cancer and has only 3 months to live and of course on his students daily lives and conflicts. Every AKB48 member will have a part in the drama and will be using their real names in their roles. The main players will be the usual media senbatsu members with the other senbatsu members playing supporting characters. The undergirls will play other bit-part roles probably no more than walk-on or people in the background. It’s highly unlikely they’ll get any lines.

Each episode only last 10 mins each except the first which will be 30 mins and the final one which will go for a whopping 60 mins! Apparently there will be no big story arc throughout the series as each storyline is neatly wrapped up after each episode but all of them are linked together somehow. We’ll just have to see how everything pans out.

The broadcast schedule for the drama is as follows:

Episode 1: 2/26 – 23:55~24:25
Episodes 2 to 4: 2/27 – 23:55~24:25
Episodes 5 to 7: 2/28 – 23:55~24:25
Episodes 8 to 10: 3/1 – 23:55~24:25
Episodes 11 to 13: 3/2 – 23:55~24:25
Episode 14: 3/3 – 24:38~24:48
Episode 15: 3/4 – 24:28~25:38
Episode 16: 3/5 – 24:50~25:00
Episode 17: 3/6 – 22:30~23:30

Judging from the above photo, Mariko will not play a student but a teacher of some sort. I’m really looking forward to this. It will no doubt be completely different from Majisuka Gakuen. It’s a shame that there’s no news of a special episode of that drama as I’m sure fans would love to revisit the trials and tribulations of the students at Maji High.
