It’s Official – Sakura no Ki ni Narou Hits 1 Million

6 03 2011

Yesterday saw 22,500 people converge at the Saitama Super Arena for the first of 8 handshake events taking place to celebrate the release of Sakura no Ki ni Narou. AKB48 had an even better reason to celebrate as Yuko Oshima revealed to the hordes of fans that the single had passed the 1 million barrier in it’s 3 week of release.

The attendance figure at Saitama has even broken the record for an AKB48  handshake event that took place last December when 20,000 fans turned up at the Kyocera Dome. Seeing that they’re back at Saitama Super Arena today for the 2nd of 8 handshake events, could there be even more people turning up?

Other news that came out of the handshake event was that AKB48 Nemousu TV has been renewed for a 6th season. The brand new season starts on April 24th with a 2 hour SP on April 17th featuring 6 kenkyuusei in Guam.

Also as you’re sure to know by now, more details have emerged about AKB48’s new album which hits stores on April 6th. There’ll be 16 tracks on the album with 11 new songs. The title track “Koko ni Ita Koto” will be sung by 189 members of the AKB/SKE/NMB/SDN teams.

Congratulations to the group! Wow, a lot of good news. 16 tracks and 11 of them are new songs? Amazing! Can’t wait for that to come out! 🙂
