No doubt in part to the rather large donation they made to the Japanese Red Cross Society after the Tohoku earthquake/tsunami, AKB48 have been made official messengers to the society. 5 members of AKB48 (Takamina, Mayuyu, Miichan, Akicha and Tomochin) appeared at a special press conference today in matching Red Cross uniforms. AKB48 were one of the first Japanese music groups to make a donation to the victims of March 11th and the Japanese Red Cross Society recognise the important role they can give of sending the company’s message to the general public and their fans. So far 187.3 billion yen has been raised by AKB48’s company through the sale of their single “Dareka no Tame ni” and other fundraising activities. That is just a staggering total.
