Nogizaka46 – New Information Revealed

29 06 2011

Although I still have suspicions about this new “official rival idol group” to challenge AKB48, yesterday saw news that Nogizaka46 has now been confirmed as true. Open auditions for the idol group will start on July 20th. The auditions are open to any female in the 12-24 age range and even overseas people can apply.

Aki-P and Sony will hand pick the members of the group’s 1st generation. An explanation about the group’s name has also been revealed. Nogizaka comes from the location where the last auditions will take place – the “SME Nogizaka Building” and the 46 idea is “although there are less members than AKB48, they will not lose”! A rather lame explanation for the 46 part of the name I think.

The first auditions take place on July 20th with the second auditions taking place in 7 cities across Japan (Sapporo, Sendai, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Okinawa) on August 6th and 7th. The final round of auditions will occur on August 20th and 21st. The 1st generation of Nogizaka46 will have 20 members and Sony hope they’ll be starting in October. Those that succesfully pass the auditions can look forward to appearing on various variety shows and have a CD debut through Sony Records.

Nogizaka46 even have a website of their own: http://www.nogizaka46.com/

What do you guys think about all this? What is the reasoning behind Aki-P’s decision to create a rival group? Has he given up now on HKT48 or are they still going ahead? Is this a new trick to fool the fans once more? I’m sure we’ll find out in the coming weeks.

1 simple theory: competitions are also inevitable everywhere, there will be a rival group to AKB coming up sooner or later. Rather than handing this “rival” title over to others, Aki-p decides that he will control this whole “competition”. This is what you call monopoly.

Yes, it’s true that somewhere down the line there’ll be a rival group challenging AKB48, just as AKB48 eventually took over from Morning Musume as the no.1 idol group in Japan. I’d like to see the eventual leader of Nogizaka46 publicly challenge AKB48 on a TV show to say that they’re going to steal their thunder and become no.1. I’m sure the competition between the two will be fierce.

You’d think that Aki-P could come up with a more original name than Nogizaka46. Oh and if there’s going to be a Majisuka Gakuen 3 – who else but Nogizaka46 as pupils at another rival school besides Yabakune to challenge Maeda, Rappappa and Maji High.

But if Aki-p truly wants a “rival” group, it can’t have too much connection with the AKB group, otherwise it will just appear as yet another sister group. One thing they might need to do is identify a group of people who don’t embrace AKB, use Nogizaka to target that group and there’ll be a chance of success.

Well of course, at last all will fall under Aki-p’s hands if that really happens. Not sure if it’s a good thing or not though, as much as I admire Aki-p’s talents, I don’t feel quite comfortable at him controlling everything.

That’s like an insult to all the other idol group producers (guys like this Tsunku and such) saying “Well… we don’t think your productions can rival us anymore, so we have to make our own rival.” The question is how quickly the market saturates with this.

Not sure I like this idea either or not. We’ll have to wait to see what comes out of it.

Personally I like the more friendly/ in-family competition of the 48 sister groups. For example, I’m interested how well NMB48’s debut single will do in comparison to SKE48’s new single. Additionally the 48 groups have the advantage (besides SDN perhaps, that is) to be locally bound to a city/ region allowing fans to connect with their local group/ theater.

i like the “idea” on paper but reality is if he should to establish the other groups first, but then again I’m still toying with the idea of “since not doing any major idol group since onyanko (chekko or however u spell it doesn’t count cause he was brought on late) he probably has written a gazillion songs, can write songs easily, or just many ideas for songs that is just floating around his head to explore.”

i think he should revamp the name personally and minus a “46” but just establish the teams. I like the fact that overseas people can apply. would be great if american/english singers are chosen.

then again I also think in order to get the old defstar cd rights, he “has” to do this because sony is probably $ hungry lol

I think it will fail….they already have competition who are selling well passpo debuted at no.1, Momoiro Clover is their doing pretty well, Tokyo Girl Style, and etc….I mean another Aki-P group that’s not in the 48 universe i don’t see much success.. AND HE JUST STARTED NMB48 and working on another group come on…Plus if he controls it i don’t see much competition happening

I wonder if he would do a male version of AKB48. I’d be funny if they would beat the Johnnies. Plus, since Aki-P is giving many young women work, he should do the same for young men. Just my two cents.

That’s a great point, keyinjpop! Whom these all girls could marry, as they choose nearly only actors/singers/TV personalities, and now girls really overcount men? :))

Don’t let all these girls be lonely for the rest of life :))

I don’t think he’ll lift the ban on dating, I’m just thinking maybe boys v. girls.

Looks like Nogizaka46 have their own TV show even before they’ve been formed which is called AKB History. The new idol group members will have to go through the many challenges that AKB48 faced in the years before they became accepted by the general public. They’ll do this in a space of a couple of months on the show. By doing these challenges, Sony & Aki-P hope they might become as successful as AKB48.

But the point is they do not become successful on their own anyway since they “use” AKB48 for promotion.😉

I certainly think this group will get attention. Though obviously it’s not very original. The only way I’ll like them more is if their music is any better. Though I hope they don’t release all the stages again. Like the sister groups do.
If this group is otherwise original then I may be inclined to like them. But idol groups in general are becoming too similar, and I don’t think this will be the exception.
