As part of a new recruiting drive to encourage teenagers and people in their 20’s, blood donor centres across Japan will give an AKB48 free gift to those that are willing to donate blood. Over the past few years, the number of young people in Japan giving blood has decreased so they’re trying this new tactic to see if it will encourage AKB48 fans to come and donate. They’re already using the popularity of Hello Kitty which has had the desired effect of seeing more young women in their early 20’s come forward as they’re tempted by the free gifts on offer. A pen is given to those that donate blood for the first time, if you come again you get a bag. Many young women came twice as they desperately wanted the bag. They will try the same with AKB48 freebies to see if this works. The first 500 people to donate blood will get an AKB48 clear file which shows the members in a Japanese Red Cross uniform. The recruitment drive came into effect today and if it’s deemed a success perhaps more AKB48 freebies will be given out in the future.
