JR Railway Station Jingles

6 06 2009

Anybody that’s ever been to Japan will instantly recognise these jingles from JR railway stations all over the country. Most of the jingles featured on the Youtube video below come from Tokyo stations. It’s strange how listening to these bring back instant memories of previous trips in Japan. God, I can’t wait to be back there in 5 and a half weeks.

Hi,
just back from Tokyo I listened to your recordings. I´ve found them just in the hotel (Prince Park Tower, very pretty and comfortable in Shiba area). I have the same feelings – listenings to these sounds reminds me of this beautiful city and the nice and friendly people there. I am from Germany, and life here is a little bit different!!! Unfortunately I´ll have to wait for a while before flying over again. I always started from metro station Akabanebashi (Oedo line), but I haven´t found this jingle. Any idea where I could get it from for my PDA? I was searching a lot of web pages, but some of them have broken links, and the others publish JR lines jingles. May be you could give me a tip?

Well if you’re interested you can actually buy a CD from Japan of some railway jingles. If I remember rightly I bought it online from HMV Japan about 2 years ago and it features most of the jingles featured in the Youtube video plus some shinkansen ones too. I like listening to it from time to time.

This website has a lot of great tunes from stations – not sure if you’ve been to this site before: http://nekocha.sakura.ne.jp/tmp/melody/. Actually I think this is railways stations tunes only and it hasn’t got any metro subway tunes. Haven’t really noticed any metro subway tunes come to think of it. I’ll have a look for you anyway.

Glad you enjoyed Tokyo. Your hotel was in a great location near Tokyo Tower. I’ve always stayed in Shinjuku and that’s where I’ll be again next month, just in time to see the Sumida River fireworks display.

The CD has all but the first one (named “ATOS-3” in this movie. Where did you find it? That’s *the* one I want as a ringtone…

Thank you so much for posting this video!

I’ve been looking for an accurate sounding vid for the longest time. I’m almost moved to tears by the sense of nostalgia.

I’m leaving Tokio tomorrow after two weeks here, and am missing these jingles already. Thanks for posting it.
